Abstract: Promotion of Physical Activity
for Youth
This resource has been developed as a learning tool to enable you to proceed
through the steps involved in designing a health education program to promote
physical exercise for youth.

objectives
On completion of this learning resource, students should be able to:
- Outline how common childhood obesity is in Australia,
the associated risk factors, and the evidence for the morbidity it causes;
- Discuss the evidence for the efficacy of possible interventions
to counteract childhood obesity;
- Identify and analyze the interests of possible stakeholder
in a childhood obesity prevention and control program;
- Develop a model of the causes of childhood obesity
in Australia;
- Identify what formative and baseline research needs
to be undertaken towards planning a childhood obesity control program;
- Develop strategies to promote physical activity in
children;
- Develop a communication strategy and key messages for
the mass communication component of a program to promote physical activity
in children;
- Develop the outline of an action plan to promote physical
activity in children;
- Develop a plan for the evaluation of the media elements
of a mass communication program to promote physical activity in children.
