This resource has been developed as a learning tool to enable you to proceed through the steps involved in the identification and collection of the information and resources needed to develop a local operational tobacco control program.

PrintLearning objectives

On completion of this learning resource, students should be able to:

  • Perform a situational analysis of a community towards planning tobacco control;
  • Identify stakeholders interested in tobacco control at the local level and analyze how they can contribute to planning of tobacco control;
  • Plan group education about tobacco-related diseases towards motivating community members to actively participate in tobacco control planning;
  • Develop a concept map of the determinants of tobacco consumption and appreciate that these are addressed by current national and state evidence-based strategies;
  • Plan the key aspects of further data collection necessary for tobacco control program planning.
