Abstract: Control of Tuberculosis
This resource has been developed as a learning tool to enable you to proceed
through the steps involved in the control of tuberculosis in Australia.

objectives
On completion of this learning resource, students should be able to:
- Understand the components of a tuberculosis control
program;
- Understand how the system of notification and surveillance
of tuberculosis is applied;
- Analyze the qualities of screening tests and their
application in screening programs;
- Identify those groups that are at high risk of tuberculosis
infection;
- Understand the steps that should be undertaken in contact
tracing for tuberculosis control;
- Understand how chemoprophylaxis and BCG immunization
are used in Australia;
- Apply a culturally sensitive approach to screening
ethnic minority and Aboriginal groups;
- Understand the application of the legal aspects of
tuberculosis control;
- Develop key aspects of a monitoring system to assess
the major outcomes of tuberculosis control.
