This resource has been developed as a learning tool to enable you to understand keys aspects of the modern practice of environmental health.

PrintLearning objectives

On completion of this learning resource, students should be able to:

  • Outline the aspects of modern environmental health practice and the key guiding principles of the Australian Charter of Environmental Health;
  • Identify environmental health needs of an Australian urban community and match these needs with common environmental health activities that address them;
  • Identify the evidence for the health effects of noise pollution and apply the principles of the Australian Charter of Environmental Health in combating this pollution;
  • Identify the key steps involved in implementing a environmental health risk assessment;
  • Identify reasons for a Health Impact Assessment and the key steps of such an assessment;
  • Appreciate the special environmental health needs of Aboriginal communities and how to address these needs appropriately.
